Episode four was certainly a step down from the previous stanza of season eight. It’s to be expected, though.
A battle with The Night King was exhausting and went from demoralizing to inspirational. It was only fitting that it would take our beloved characters a second to gather their thoughts beforeturning their attention to an entirely different kind of evil.
Here’s the rundown of things that happened.
- Brienne and Jaime (Braime?) did the deed
- Jaime later fled back to King’s Landing (he can’t quit Cersei)
- Bronn strikes a deal with Tyrion and Jaime
- Daenerys honored Gendry with a noble title
- Daenerys also gave Jon Snow an ultimatum
- Varys and Tyrion reconsidered their loyalties
- Jon Snow defied his queen, telling his sisters who he really is
- Arya Stark denied Gendry’s marriage proposal
- Arya and The Hound discussed their coming intentions
- Cersei’s army took out Rhaegal, leaving Dany with one dragon
- Cersei also executed Missandei
That about sums it up. It felt like the episode was moving slowly, but a lot actually happened. We learned that Cersei’s defense is a bit better than anticipated, particularly with its ability totake out the opposition’s top weapon: dragons.
We were also reminded of how ruthless Cersei is, but it’s possible she incited two people (Grey Worm and Dany) that she maybe shouldn’t have.
Dany’s power has gone to her head, though. Jon Snow and just about everyone else have questioned her by now, leaving you to wonder if she has any sense of direction left going forward.
This sets things up quite nicely for the final two episodes, but it’s still anyone’s guess where we go from here. Will Cersei remain in power? Will Dany take her out? Or is there something elsecoming around the bend we aren’t seeing?
Probably all three, but you can put your knowledge, assumptions, and cash to the challenge and place bets on a litany of Game of Thrones prop bets.
Bovada has a slew of them going strong, and while I’ve touched on many in the not too distant past, I’ll list a bunch of them again withupdated prices and let you know where my mind is at with each one.
